Summer greetings!
A few
weeks ago Dick & Marilynn Martin traveled to Texas to visit
their son Brandt. During the
return trip they were stranded at the airport overnight due to inclement
weather. Amidst the stress of a cancelled flight a very kind woman reached
out to them. Not only
did she provide guidance, but ultimately invited them to spend the night
at her home! They declined,
opting for a couple of reclining chairs in the Star Bucks lounge. Early the next morning the
woman returned determined more than ever to assist them. She managed to escort them to the
front of the line, through the re-ticketing process and helped them
navigate the logistics of gate changes, etc. At a time of high anxiety and
frustration, this “airport angel” brought calm and comfort.
Such
acts of random kindness are pure blessings. To be “taken care of” by a
stranger is a gift of grace never to be forgotten. In fact, Dick was so moved by the
experience he was embarrassed not to have asked for the woman’s name and
address. Maybe that’s all
right. Good Samaritans
offer themselves not for
accolades, but simply out of compassion. I
wonder, over the coming summer months, when and where you
will
discover opportunities to
embody the life of Christ in such ways!
Blessings,
