Meet Pilgrim's Refugee Family—The Htoo Family
On April 8, 2010, members of the Pilgrim Church Refugee Resettlement Committee welcomed the Htoo family. SayHler and Htee Sher is a young couple with two children. They’re from Burma (Myanmar) and lived for many years in a refugee camp in Thailand. The family has made excellent progress since their arrival. Both parents are employed and the children are enrolled in school and doing well. They have purchased their first car and are in the process of purchasing their first home. When they arrived, they didn’t speak English. They have made amazing progress with our often times-confusing language—especially the children! The committee met its goal to help them attain independence by April of 2011. We continue to be a part of their life on a social basis. They are an absolute joy to our Pilgrim Family!
