Open & Affirming
Pilgrim United Church of Christ is an Open and Affirming congregation striving to embrace all people—regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender identity & expression, ethnic background, economic status, family structure, ability or age—into the full life and ministry of the church.
We treasure diversity at Pilgrim. We are proud to have a faith community that is “Beyond Tolerant” preferring instead to wrap our arms around people….just as they are. No matter who you are or where you are in life’s journey, you are welcome here!
The congregation of Pilgrim United Church of Christ aspires to be a safe and nurturing place. Our goal is to provide a safe environment for everyone; children, youth, adults, visitors and employees who participate in our programs and use our facilities. We want our congregation to be a safe haven, free of all forms of inappropriate interaction.
We have enlisted a Safe Sanctuary Advisory Panel to regularly review safety protocol, manage background verification's and address any safety concerns.
We take inclusion seriously at Pilgrim. So seriously that we assembled a team in 2010 to begin the official process of being recognized as an Accessible to All (A2A) Congregation by the UCC’s Disabilities Ministry. Even after we gained the designation, we continued our quest to extend our welcome to everyone by maintaining an active Inclusion Team.
Inclusion Team Purpose Statement
We exist to ensure that Pilgrim United Church of Christ creates an environment that welcomes, honors and encourages each person’s individual journey. We exist to remove barriers through education and to foster an inclusive culture that accepts and appreciates diversity. In doing this, we hope to emulate the teachings and compassion of Jesus Christ and His church.
